How to Maximize Your Social Media Presence with Minimal Effort

It’s a reality of life that from time to time only the people who work in a company’s marketing section actually ever know what’s going with the company’s marketing plan. New thoughts get implemented with the rest of the company being none the wiser. And if your association is like many others, internal social media strategy trickled in a small at a time, seeping through the cracks, but never quite fully soaking in.

This often spells missed opportunity for in-house marketers to leverage the many channels available to them throughout the company to help them reach their goals.

I, myself, am in the beginning stages of performing a company wide analysis of potential missed opportunities in the way of social media promotion. We want to take full advantage of all the communications and channels we have available to us to let people know that we also want to connect on our Facebook, Twitter & YouTube accounts, and of course, our blog.

In this post, I’ll tell you how I plan to tackle the research and make little adjustments that can have impact on our social media exposure in the coming year.

Analyze Internal Communications

A great first step is sitting down with each of the departments in your company (and you can simply do this with individual employees if your company is smaller), to find out who they talk to and how they communicate every day.

Then brainstorm ideas on missed opportunities for directing those people to social media channels. Everyone in the company has a chance to touch someone important to your business, including:

• Sales
• Customer service
• Account management
• Technical staff
• Creative staff
• Accounting (yes, vendors are an important alliance, too)
• Executive staff

This is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Depending on how each department or individual operates, the social media promotion will fit in differently.

For example, the sales department might start directing more traffic to your company blog for more information on your business’ area of expertise, or perhaps they’ll hand select articles that your company has written on a particular problem the prospect is currently facing. This is both helpful to the prospect and the sales funnel.

On the other hand, your customer service people who handle calls all day can take those opportunities to plug any promotions or contests that your company might be having on any given social medium.
The point being, if you’re an in-house marketer, it’s important to know where these missed opportunities exist companywide, and to secure wins with minimal efforts that integrate seamlessly into the activities these employees are already performing.

Assess Outward Communications

Take stock of every device and piece of collateral (digital or print) your department creates. Then do the same for every department and/or staff member (if a smaller company). Where are your missed opportunities to promote your social media?
This includes things like:

• Print collateral
• Web pages
• Power point presentations
• Newsletters
• Business cards
• Emails
• Press releases
• Multimedia like podcasts or videos
• Client documents and deliverables
• Social media (yes, promote your various social media through your social media!)

This is just journey of your “t”s and dotting your “i”s on your company’s day-to-day communications. Then you have to ensure that each new campaign you initiate also ties the social media into it. For example, if your company is heavily involved in industry conferences or tradeshows like we are, you have to think about how to work in your social media exposure into that marketing plan.

Well, those are my quick-and-dirty tips for optimizing your company for social media promotion. I’m sure we all have missed opportunities that can be seized with little to no impact on our daily routines. What are your ideas?

A/B Testing In Google AdWords

There are many of techniques in SEO to boost your popularity and branding, pay per click (PPC) offers easy ways to test and prove different marketing messages. While SEO and social media can have use different testing methods, PPC has the benefit of giving clean, trackable results.

According to Wikipedia, A/B testing is a technique of marketing testing by which a baseline control sample is compared to a variety of single-variable test samples in order to get better response rates. In Google AdWords, the testing process allows you to test the performance of two entirely different versions of an ad. Here’s how it works.

Let’s say you sell android tablet Your ad might look something like this:

Best Android tablet
Check out LG Android Series powered
by Android. Choose your Android Now
www.example.com

After you have created that ad (our control ad), the alternative ad might look like this:

LG Android Phones @ Cheap rates
Check out LG Android Series powered
by Android. Choose your Android Now
www.example.com

As you can see, the ads are very close to being the same, but you want to test if the word “Best” attracts more people than the word “LG.” This test would provide valuable information about your customers’ interests. If more shoppers clicked on the “Best” ad and made a purchase on your website, then you would then delete the “LG” ad and try something else, for example:

Best Android tablet @ cheap rates
Check out LG Android Series powered
by Android. Choose your Android Now
www.example.com

This second test ad would determine if your visitors are more interested in Best instead of LG than try to combine both as mentioned above.

This is a very basic view of A/B testing with Google AdWords. Leaps and bounds in visitor testing can really be made by making changes to your ad’s landing page. These tests can include changes in your ad copy, call-to-action, page color, headers, and many other tweaks. The truth is that website and ad testing is never complete. It is a continuous process for the best click through rate and the highest conversion percentage.

Black Hats: Beware perhpas it will kill you

Appropriate natural (unpaid) SEO is a reliable method to get visibility through search engine point of view... But, take note the keyword “proper.” unluckily some unscrupulous service providers do not take heed of proper SEO techniques.

They use techniques that abuse search engine algorithms to essentially “cheat” their technique to the top. Such methods are called black hats, and they are the bane of search engines. Websites caught using black hat techniques are penalized or even banned by search engines.
If you want your website to be on top of search engine result page (SERP), ban these shady black hats when optimizing your website.

* Unrelated keywords
To get high rankings for every keyword, some people include lots of keywords or phrases in their text even if they are not related or relevant to the site’s content. Black hatters usually misuse and abuse top keywords after determining these words’ relevancy by using certain online tools.

* Keyword stuffing
This involves repeating keywords to such an extent that the content becomes nonsensical. “Tents for camping outdoors tents camping tents” is a perfect example. A properly optimized sentence would be. “Our tents are made of high-quality materials that can withstand harsh outdoor conditions when camping.”

* Hidden or Tiny Text
This annoying black hat technique defies the rules of placing reliable content on web pages. Do not make the test so small that they are unreadable. You should also avoid hiding the text such as making the words the same color as the background.

* Redirect Pages
Redirecting the user to a different or unrelated page, commonly called cloaking, is another black hat technique that is best left avoided. A user searches for “sleeping bags,” clicks on a result that looks promising, but is directed instead to, say, a pornographic site.

* Link farms
Putting relevant links are also effective in SEO, but black hatters abuse the process through link farming or spamdexing. The abusive method involves creating lots of websites that host free links, creating a compilation of interlinked sites. These sites do not provide good quality content since their only purpose is to host links. Linking to and from numerous sites with unrelated content in an attempt to enhance search engine ranking is also considered link farming.

* Page Swapping
In this deceptive technique, a Web page gets indexed and ranked. Once it gets to a desired position, the owner then changes the page entirely. Thus, a user may search “electronic day trading” in a search engine and clicks a result in the SERP. The page he lands on, however, is completely different from the keyword he used in searching and the description seen in the SERP because the owner changed the page after it was indexed earlier.

* Mirror sites or duplicate content
Individuals using this technique copy a significant amount of content from another site—with or without permission—particularly one that is already up in the SERP, and paste it to his site. If the content was duplicated without permission, the person responsible in copying it might get into legal trouble since this method cites a case of plagiarism.

* Spamming in Blogs
Indiscriminately including backlinks to your website to your replies or posts in other’s blogs and forums, whether manually or automatically, can get you banned on that blog or forum. Your posts and replies that accompany your backlink should be relevant, insightful, informative, or helpful.

* Domain Squatting
Just like plagiarism and establishing mirror sites, this one can get the culprit into legal trouble. Basically, the website owner or SEO provider registers a domain with a trademarked word in the hopes of making it on top of an SERP or, more disturbing, to gain profit. A perfect example would be the case of Russell Boyd who registered a website called juliaroberts.com. The site was soon handed over to actress Julia Roberts after the court decided that Boyd “registered and used the domain name in bad faith.”

* Doorway Pages
Doorway pages are landing pages that are designed specifically for search engines. In most cases, they cannot be seen by the user. These pages utilize a redirect script that automatically links the visitor to another page on the website. This practice is deemed highly illegal by Google and major search engines.

Black hat strategies like the ones mentioned above can severely damage or even destroy your credibility even if you have a high rank on the search engine. With the lack of credibility, you won’t be getting much sales, memberships, or referrals.

Use correct organic SEO techniques to maintain credibility, enjoy better website ranking, and acquire good traffic—and possibly sales—while steering away from trouble.

Advantages of Commenting On Blog Posts

In continuance to our former blog post on the fine art of Commenting on Blogs we would like to share our viewpoint on the reason behind Commenting on Blogs.

The visitor generated content in the form of commentary is something that each blogger looks familiar to when a blog post is published. As this content is the sign that the post has been read by the guest and the guest has found it compelling sufficient to share his opinion about it.

The main reason of contribution your views or belief in the form of a comment is to voice your thoughts about the subject which will carry the discussion further and enrich the post with more knowledgeable information which you may be able to add for the reason that of your experience and knowledge about the topic matter.

Each value- added comment adds to the info. About the topic of the post and every reply takes the discussion further. It also indicates the popularity and readership of the blog to a great extent. This mode of interacting with the people in your niche industry and sharing knowledge has been the prevalent even before the people started using social media sites like face and twitter for sharing and interacting with each other.

Comments on the blog give an idea to the blogger about his style of writing and encourages the blogger as blogging is not only putting forward your opinion but also being open about listening to other people’s opinion all over the globe which may generate fresh perspectives and ideas about a certain topic by initiating conversations and discussions by way of comments and replies. This can be between the blogger and the readers or the readers amongst themselves.

Each valuable comment is a contribution and shows respect for the blogger as it proves that the visitor to your blog who may have reached the blog via whatever media, whether he is a new or a repeat visitor he has spent time in adding to the content and proving that he has read the post. Hence the metrics like the no. of comments on the blog, no. of visits (new and repeat – as more no. of repeat visits to the blog indicates that people want to come back to the site again to read more about what is the latest being shared by the blogger on his blog) are important in judging the popularity and acceptability of the blog in that niche business.

But just like every coin has two sides, people instead of these objectives behind commenting are resorting to comment spamming just like we had the keyword spam and the link spam.

What is comment spam and how can the blogger help to avoid such a spam?

Comments are a great way for webmasters to build community and readership. Unfortunately, they're often abused by spammers and nogoodniks, many of whom use scripts or other software to generate and post spam.

If you've ever received a comment that looked like an advertisement or a random link to an unrelated site, then you've encountered comment spam.

Here are some ideas for reducing or preventing comment spam on your website.

  • Turn on comment moderation.
  • Disallow hyperlinks in comments (Or have a Link Policy).
  • Add a "report spam" feature to user profiles and friend invitations.
  • Block comment pages using robots.txt or META tags.
  • Think twice about enabling a guestbook or comments .
  • Use "nofollow" tags.
  • Monitor your Spammy post and Pages.
  • a blacklist to prevent repetitive spamming attempts.

Blogs are typically created for sharing, expressing and voicing certain thoughts, opinions and information to reach out to more and more people, comments on the blog show that this exercise has been fruitful and has a multiplier effect on the outreach. Every expensive comment benefits the blogger and commenter but only if the true purpose of blogging and commenting is kept in mind while commenting.

Create a social experience at the point of purchase: Some suggestions may be using an Application Programming Interface (API) that will create more opportunities, allowing people to recommend specific products, or integrate social buttons to the sales funnel, or create special offers (exclusive social network deals) to attract people to the site location, and communicate with some of their friends.
Drive people to the point of purchase online: Be transparent when using social network advertising with offers that guide people to the point of purchase online. Be honest, and clarify that a button or link will lead to this or that place.

Top SEO Mistakes : Be Careful

1. No Targetted Keywords or Targetting the wrong keywords
Many SEOs do this blunder by selecting not so useful, non-relevant or even wrong keywords and key phrases for optimizing the website pages. They might choose keywords according to their mind that are descriptive of the website but the normal users may not search those terms. Choosing the right keywords can bring success or failure to your SEO campaign. Irrespective of your resources, you can't think on your own of all the useful keywords but a good keyword
suggestion tool will definitely help you find keywords that are useful for your website. Also region specific keywords play important role in bringing quality visitors to the website.

2. Ignoring the Title tag
Leaving the title tag empty or not using it properly is also a big mistake. Title tag is one of the most important place to have useful and relevant keywords of your website, it help you in optimization and the text in your title tag shows in the SERPs (search engine result pages) as your page title.

3. Concentrating only on Meta Tags
Many professionals think SEO is only about putting keywords in your meta description & keywords tags. They must know that meta tags does not have enough weightage on search engines. They can create meta description and keywords tag with useful keywords but should not expect much to rank well only because of these meta tags.

4. A Flash Website without a HTML Alternative
Flash might be attractive but not to search engines and users. If you really insist that your site is Flash-based and you want search engines to love it, provide an html version. Here are some more tips for optimizing Flash sites. Search engines don't like Flash sites for a reason – a spider can't read Flash content and therefore can't index it.

5. JavaScript Menus
Using JavaScript for navigation within the website is not bad as long as you understand that search engine spiders can't read JavaScript and build your web pages accordingly. Hence if you have JavaScript menus you can't do without, you should create simple HTML and XML sitemap putting all the page links, so that all your pages will be crawlable to the search engine spiders.

6. Using only Images for Headings
Many programmers use images in place of text due to the thinking that an image looks better than simple text for headings and menus. Although images can make your website look more attractive & distinctive but in SEO terms images for headings and menus are a big mistake because H1, H2 header tags and menu links are important SEO items. If you don't want to have your text within H1, H2 header tags due to their visibility, you can modify them through a stylesheet.

7. Ignoring Keyword Rich URLs
Many SEOs underestimate the importance of a good URL. Dynamic page names are still very frequent in use and no keywords in the URL is more a rule than an exception. Although it is possible to rank high even without keywords in URL but all being equal, if you have keywords in the URL of the domain and file names (inner pages, images, etc), result in an additional advantage over your competitors. Keywords in URLs are more important for MSN & Yahoo! but Google also give weightage to them, hence it is very useful to use keywords in URLs.

8. Backlink Spamming
It is seen as a very common practice to acquire large number of backlinks for the website due to a delusion that more backlinks are always better and for which many SEOs try to get links with any hook n crook, they may resort to link farms, forums or newgroups spam etc., which can lead to getting their website banned. You need to have quality backlinks for your website only through ethical SEO Techniques.

9. Lack of Consistency and SEO Maintenance
SEO never been a one time process. People who believe that once they optimize a site, it is done forever are living in a wrong belief. If you want to permanently optimize your website, you have to keep on analysing your competition and changes in the ranking algorithms of search engines and update your website pages.

10. Lack of Keywords in the Page Content
If the content on the page does not have sufficient keywords then you must modify your content according to the requirement and place the useful and relevant keywords at the sensible place within the text. Also it is better to make the most useful keywords bold or highlight them.

Search Engine Optimization Is The Key

There are 3 types of client. Clients can mark a web address and arrive directly from website, only if they are in your address. Of course, this will limit customers to a few who already knows. A second approach is to link to your website another site. Although this is an excellent way to generate traffic to your site is included authorization to other sites, so you post a link on their website. And if you do not have enough traffic already coming on your site, they may not want to be an affiliate. The final approach to a client is to find your website through a search engine. A search engine is the tool to help users find sites. Say you type a keyword as a kettle?

Immediately search engine to comb the web and find every page with the keyword kettle on it, and present them in a ranking order. To increase your chances of success, would you get your site ranked in the top ten, because most people do not bother to go beyond the first page, not counting the hundreds that follow. SEO is one of the most effective tools of Internet marketing. Consider this: If you are a visitor to your site from a search engine, is already interested in your products. Although we cannot exclude the possibility of a child doing a school essay on gift ideas, the more likely that potential customers are willing to purchase a gift basket. Your website is simply to turn that visit into a sale!

On the other hand, search engines take into account dozens of factors to rank the sites. Google says they have over a hundred of criteria in their classification system. Basically, the search must be convinced that your site contains information that the browser is looking for. For this
goal requires a lot of keyword rich content. If you have a lot of articles with information on the boilers, but did not use the keyword area often enough, you may lose the battle. In general, the keyword density of 3-5% is considered acceptable, although it varies from a search engine
to another. Thus, in a 500 words, must use the keyword boiler by at least 15 to 25 times. If you use more often as you can be penalized. Outside the keywords, you can increase your search engine rankings through links on your site. This satisfies the search engine his is an important site more likely to have useful information. Search engine optimization is undoubtedly the most effective marketing tool if you use two strategies keyword rich content and numerous links to other sites related to their own. Then you will succeed in improving the ranking of search engines and therefore bring more customers to your site.

Link Building 2011 Tips

Link building is a crucial part of creating traffic for websites, new and old. It not only generates hits when people click on the links, but improves search result positioning as well. Here are some tips on link building for new websites:

I.) A common mistake is to start trying to acquire links on just any website. Link building is much more effective when linking occurs between two websites about the same (or similar) topics. For example: one of the greatest ways to increase Page Rank is by getting one-way links as opposed to reciprocal links. One of the best places to get these is through directories, but it is best to find relevant directories.

II.) Consider distributing a press release on the new site, especially if there is something newsworthy about it. Include a link at the end of the release and post it on press release distribution websites.

III.) Don’t submit new websites to directories until they are fully functional and ready to use. For interactive sites like forums or classifieds, wait until there is some user activity before doing this.

IV.) If you have the money, consider paying for inclusion in major directories like Yahoo! Directory. Gaining quality links of this type is especially valuable in boosting search engine rankings.

V.) Don’t make new links with spaced characters (like “N e w s”) or letters made up of characters (“\/\/”); search engines won’t interpret these words properly and the benefit to rankings will not be as great.

VI.) the most valuable links are on pages with a high Google Page Rank (PR) or a lot of traffic. Use CheckPR.org to determine a site’s PR, and Quantcast.com for an approximate indication of its popularity.

VII.) While your site is new, concentrate on building links to the home page. Link the home page to other important pages and they will indirectly receive some of the benefits (search rankings, direct traffic).

VIII.) Finally, such websites can also accomplish link building by looking for relevant sites that have lists of related links. If the site’s webmaster offers an e-mail address to send link suggestions to, give it a try.

Overview:
Pay-Per-Click (also known as Pay-Per-Placement or Pay-Per-Performance) search engines sell ranking by keyword in an auction format. If you want to have a high ranking you simply bid more for that particular word. These results appear as Sponsored Listings at the top or side of the regular listings. Whenever someone clicks on your link you get charged.

The advantage is you can get the exact ranking you want for the exact keyword you want all in about 24 hours. Traditional SEO can take months to take effect and even then can not guarantee specific keywords. PPC ensures you are found for your most important keywords and helps to deliver a steady stream of traffic to your website.

The main disadvantage is cost. Most search engines only display the top 3 or 4 positions, so those rankings are very competitive. Costs can range anywhere from $0.10 to $10 or more per keyword. Keyword choice and careful monitoring are very important to maintain a positive return-on-investment (ROI).

Just like picking keywords for SEO, you need to carefully select keywords for your PPC campaign. More generally keywords are more expensive and will result in higher clicks, but generally lower ROI. Niche keywords have a lower price and lower traffic but generally a higher ROI. It’s important to track your results and to find a balance.

Right now there are two main PPCs, Yahoo Search Solutions and Google Adwords. Many other search engines use their search results to augment their own listings. MSN currently uses Yahoo Search Solutions results for their paid listings but are expected to roll out their own PPC in the near future.

Shopping PPCs

General PPC listings appear in the major search engines like Yahoo, Google, and MSN. Shopping PPCs or Price Comparison Engines have their own websites. People come to these websites to compare products and pricing. They collect data from websites about products through a data feed which supplies photos, descriptions, and pricing. Visitors can then comparison shop before going to the individual websites. While these engines produce fewer clicks than regular PPCs, visitors from these sites are already pre-qualified themselves and generally result in more sales.

Shopping PPCs also buy ads from the regular PPCs. There product listing commonly appear in paid and regular search engine listings. Here are a few of the biggest.

  • Shopping.com / Dealtime.com
  • Nextag.com
  • Shopzilla.com / Bizrate.com
  • Shopping.Yahoo.com

Importance of Long Tail Keywords in SEO

Keyword process the vital faith in SEO and SEM. Selecting the right keyword is additional than just observing for the extreme number of hits or hunts achieved by an exact search term. What are keywords? Why is it so significant in SEO or SEM? The disputes that prospective clients ask for, in the search engines to reach at a website that sells the invention or service they are observing for, are known as keywords. Keywords can be considered in to the following types:

  • Long tail keywords are those searches that have more than 3 words in them.
  • Short tail keywords are those searches that have just a couple of words in them.
  • Misspelled keywords are those search terms that have common spelling errors.

Most businesses tend to concentrate on improving their business for short tail keywords, because they believe that keywords with supreme searches in keyword tools mean more business. The inner reality is that the rivalry for these search terms is more and it is hard to beat the competition to attain higher ranking rapidly. Apart from that, the buyers who are incisive with these terms have not really made an ordering decision.

Potential buyers who are too exact about the invention are those who are keen about purchasing the product. They use highly specific long tail keywords. Long tail keywords are attractive well-defined and tapering down to specific brands or features that one might exactly look for. Sales adaptation is indeed more for long-tail searches. Forceful marketers who prefer to tap in business from every likely search do not miss to improve their products for misspelled keywords. They tend to catch up with clients even if they search for the product with messy spellings in their search. Clients come with keywords of all types, short, long or misspelled. So, the choice of the keywords should be a mix of all seeing buyer psychology, the demand level for the product, and the rivalry for the keyword involved.

A regular purchaser is not too techie about the keyword search. Specialists dealing with a product have a totally specific language to opinion out to products. For example, a client who is looking for rhombuses might search for "SEO Services" or "Cheap SEO Services" etc. whereas a highly knowledgeable client or a mediator dealing with SEO would search for "Cheap Quality SEO Services" or "A++ SEO Services." The high-quality of words used to search for an invention varies between the features and objects of the end purchaser. From the viewpoint of economic and well-organized keyword selection, the not to miss keywords are the long tail keyword phrases because they self-contain the short tail keywords in them.

From the transactions point of view, clients searching with long tail phrases are those who have made the choice to buy the product. They are just determining between choices. Therefore, long tail keywords are very significant in SEO or SEM.

Top Tips for Multilingual Link-Building

Many businesses are taking benefit of the get to of the internet by creating foreign language websites to access potential customers from entire world. And as with your main website, search engine optimization (SEO) is a must for each of your foreign language websites to generate regular and steady traffic – this includes Link building.

Link-building, to recap rapidly for those who don’t know,  is an internet marketing approach which enables online businesses to increase their rankings in the search engine results pages (SERPs) by creating  backlinks to their website, through online comments, article placements and directory entries. Links establish connections between websites, and are also the path search engines use to find their way to and index websites. By regularly publishing posts or articles in relevant online publications, with a link back to your site, you’ll see your site gradually rise in the Google rankings. The good news, if you have multilingual sites, is that it works the same in any language.

You will, of course, have to create content and listings in the relevant language, for which you may have to enlist the help of a language services agency. But to get you started, here are five pointers to keep in mind when embarking on a multilingual link-building mission:

* Quality over quantity
Search engines take into account the relevance and authority of the sites which are linking to you, so make sure you spend time creating quality content for high ranking sites rather than piles of low-value content for the internet’s backwaters. When it comes to article placement, the information needs to be up to date and of value. By establishing yourself as a quality content provider and an industry expert, you also give your business a good name, which is a great marketing strategy in itself.

* Get Clued in
Link-building is an ongoing process so get cracking on creating lists of relevant sites for each target language, and make sure you keep abreast of the latest industry news and developments. Over time you’ll be able to create content more quickly as your knowledge increases, and you’ll also get an insight into the varying interests of different language markets.

* Dodging the duplicate content rule
It is a handy fact that Google doesn’t penalise you for duplicating content in a different language. What this means is that, rather than having copy-writers producing content for language, you can translate or ‘transcreate’ your original content into your chosen languages, saving both time and money.

 * Culturally sensitive pitching and content
Something to keep in mind is the varying cultural nuances and formal procedures required when pitching to, and writing for, foreign websites and audiences. The relatively informal pitching etiquette and writing styles of the UK and US might not be so appreciated in Japan or Germany, so make sure you know your audience.

* Multilingual link-building on a shoestring
If the budget, or even DIY, option is what you’re after, start your link-building strategy by targeting web directories for each different language. All you tend to need to add your site to a web directory is a short blurb about your website, your contact details, and of course a link to your site. As with most easy options there are some down-sides however. If you are in a competitive niche, web directory submissions alone might not be that effective and a more complex link-building strategy may be necessary, involving article placements.

Building back-links to your translated websites is not something you can choose to ignore, though – because once you’ve invested money in translating and optimising your foreign language websites, you won’t see the return on investment (ROI) that you want if the sites languish down the bottom of the Google rankings (more than a third of all search traffic goes to Google’s top ranking page). The most effective way to start climbing the SERP rankings is by building back-links – so if you’re not already looking at a multilingual link-building strategy, making use of web directory submissions and article placements, then now may be the time to get started!

Reciprocal linking is good or Bad?

Have you ever thought is Your SEO Knowledge is Correct or not? Read following information and decide.

Reciprocal linking is a subject that produces a lot of conversation: everybody wants to identify how to obtain it to work for them. Much of this conversation involve link trading, or linking together their own websites, and whether it’s going to get you in trouble or not. They invariably fear that they will run into problems with search engines who may consider it cheating. Many of them have heard horror stories about Linking Farms which often get banned from Google along with every page associated with them. This fear is justified by the obvious disasters that link farms can ensue upon a web site. There are very few webmasters who are willing to take the risk and rightfully so.

Misunderstanding clouds the debate on reciprocal links on mutually sides. Reciprocal links deserve a fair hearing, because some are bad for a website, but most aren’t. In the beginning, almost all sites had plenty of reciprocal links (the tradition of the ‘links’ page), and they worked exactly as intended. Links brought in additional traffic, and affiliate links let people make money. These ‘links’ pages are less and less common now, but seem to be making a slight come back during this period in which SEO work has become a phenomena and a hobby for many web masters. The fact that SEO work is so common now will inherently lead to answers to questions which have been guarded for years. These answers will help people decide if the old fashioned ‘links’ pages are worth having or not.

Most people see nothing wrong with good, old-fashioned link trading, but swapping links is only one aspect of reciprocal linking. These link swaps are allowed and, in many cases, considered beneficial. Link trades are great for web sites because they allow them to communicate a greater amount of information to their visitors. These link swaps are only beneficial, however, if they link to pages that are somehow relevant. Links to completely random pages that visitors will not find interesting are useless and could be considered fraudulent exchanges.

There are also automatic link exchanges on the good side of things, and link farms on the bad one. Link exchanges can be extremely beneficial, but before you allow yourself to get roped into this kind of situation, make sure that it pans out as a legitimate source of traffic. If you subscribe to a link exchange, the links should be hand made by you. They should not be kept in a gigantic database on the middle man’s server. They should also be done upon request rather than automatically. You should be able to look through each link and view each page to insure quality.
You may not consider everything you just read to be crucial information about SEO. But don’t be surprised if you find yourself recalling and using this very information in the next few days.

Reciprocal links are popular because of the good things they give you: they act as ads for your site as well as increasing your search engine rankings. Some people, however, say that you shouldn’t link to other websites as it decreases your own link popularity – they don’t realize that you need to give a little to get a little.

image optimization techniques | Image Optimization tips

Search bots cannot index or read pictures and images. If you own an e-commerce or images in site, image optimization will form a fundamental part of your Search Engine Optimization approach.
Image optimization techniques to use while performing SEO on your website: There are few suggestion from my side given below keep in mind before posting images on your website.
  •           Add Keywords In The Filename: Use keywords in your picture name. This is one of the finest technique for image optimization. Do not add white space and special typeset in your picture name as they will be programmed. Use hyphens to separate the keywords in the image name.
  • ·         Add Alt Tags: Search engines cannot read an image, but they can read the alt attribute included in the image tag. Make sure that you include keywords in the alt tag of every image. Do not use the same keyword for all the images on the web page.

<img=”src=”” alt=”Name”>

  • ·         Use Relevant Anchor Text: If you are linking to another page on your site using an image, add an appropriate anchor text. Include keywords in your anchor text.
  • ·         Reduce the Image Size: Make sure that the images are not heavy, but load quickly on the site. A slow loading image does not give the right impression about your site. You need to keep your site loading time to a bare minimum as it affects the ranking in Google to some extent.
  • ·         Surround the Image with Text: It is not a good practice to congest a web page with too many images. Always add a little text along with your images, if only a few lines. This will give the search engines more information to crawl and index.
  • ·         Name the Image Folder Appropriately: Wordpress has a default folder called uploads, for saving all the uploaded images. You can change the name of the folder and make it keyword rich. Henceforth, every time you add an image to your Wordpress blog, your image file name will be searchbot-friendly.
  • ·         Include the Title Tag: Title tag helps you add meaningful information to the image. This is helpful particularly for a site containing a lot of images.
  • ·         Add Images to Sitemaps: Google indexes billions of images every day. Help Google find the images in your site by adding them to the sitemap. You don’t need to create a new Sitemap; you can just add information on images to the Sitemap you already use.
Use these image optimization techniques to better rank on all the engines and drive more traffic to your site. Images are an integral part of a website. Not optimizing the images will result to the loss of valuable ranking and traffic to the site. Image optimization is a must and should be a part of your SEO strategy.

The Concept of Strategic SEO

Everybody talks about Search Engine Optimization as mindless link building. The most strategy you usually get is from selecting quality links or building link wheels. But there’s also the concept of strategy in SEO. When applied correctly this yields results better than anything else.
Here’s how it goes. You have to plan not just one site for which you will then build links but a network of sites that will target the whole market. There are many types of networks and really your imagination is the limit, but the most popular is a hierarchical or star network.
Imagine having one authority site that targets the whole market, such as “make money online” market. Such a site would be a big site that targets the biggest and broadest keywords.
Then you have a bunch of smaller sites that target sub niches. For example, SEO, affiliate marketing, list building and so on. Each of these sites would target mid to long tail keywords. And each of these sites would link to your main authority site.
Because you promote all of these sites equally, the combined authority of them would aggregate in your main site and it would be bumped up for whatever keywords you target tremendously.
If you want to take it even further, you can add yet another level of sites that would target long tail keywords and promote your second level (mid range keywords) sites.
You can of course interlink these sites, build link wheels however you want. The main advantage of this concept is that you build a network of solid sites (not a bunch of “thin” web 2.0 properties or articles) which results in a huge boost in the rankings even for the toughest keywords out there.
What is also important to understand that each of these sites, on every level, is a stand-alone money sites that brings revenue – they’re not just feeder sites for your main authority sites (although they serve that purpose at the same time).

Judging PPC Performance: Focus on Conversions

About a month ago, when I discussed PPC bidding strategies, I promised to start a discussion about how and when to create decisions about your Pay Per Click campaign's keyword and advertise performance.

But first, it's worthwhile to emphasize an important point: almost every action you take to improve your PPC ad campaign should be based on conversion data.
Many PPC newbie’s neglect to set up conversions tracking, and base their assumptions about campaign performance on the number of impressions and clicks, on ad position, and on CTR.
It is not true....

Those metrics are useful to gauge a campaign's ability to drive traffic to your site -- and especially the ability for a particular ad to attract clicks. But they tell nothing about your campaign's ability to drive sales or leads.

Tracking and reporting on conversion data, and fine-tuning a PPC campaign's routine based on that, sets PPC advertising apart from other advertising channels that have no such built-in abilities.
Here's how you should view the most important metrics regarding your campaigns:

The number of impressions indicates how often your ad is displayed, and is a compute of the number and effectiveness of the keywords in your campaign.

The number of clicks and the CTR indicates how well your ad is working to convince those viewing the ad that your site/offer corresponds well to the intent of their search.

The number of conversions and the conversion rate indicates how well your keywords, ads and landing pages are working together to convince PPC-driven site visitors to take the action that is the objective of your site -- usually sales or leads.

Since conversion data is necessary for you to judge how well your PPC campaign is working -- to decide whether you've chosen the right keywords, written compelling ad copy, adjusted your bids to obtain maximum ROI, and designed your landing pages correctly -- it's essential that you set up your site with conversion tracking.

Doing so is a one-time operation that's simple, fast and free -- you simply paste a chunk of JavaScript code into a "Thank You" page on your site. That's the page that site visitors see just after taking the desired action -- immediately after finishing a purchase, or submitting a lead form.

Google, Yahoo and Microsoft supply clear instructions for accomplishing this, so I won't describe the process here. Google's especially-clear instructions can be downloaded in PDF form here.

Side note: if your in-house or outsourced web design folks tell you that setting up conversion tracking is hard/expensive/time-consuming: get a second opinion. Fast.

Second side note: be sure to test conversion tracking after setting it up -- and test it periodically to make sure it's still working. Though the setup is straightforward, tiny mistakes, like leaving off a JavaScript line or punctuation mark, can render tracking inoperable. And pay close attention to whether your Thank You page is a secure one (with a URL prefixed by https://) -- if so, a different version of the conversion code must be used.

Third side note: many PPC advertisers need to know and report data that is difficult or impossible to obtain via the conversion tracking described above. For example, for many e-Commerce advertisers, knowing the number of conversions (sales transactions) is insufficient; they need to know the correct revenue from each conversion in order to determine their PPC campaign's effectiveness (profitability).
Fortunately doing so is straightforward -- measuring exact revenue is the forte of most web site analytics packages. One fine example is free: Google Analytics. For AdWords advertisers, Google Analytics is automatically "tied" to their PPC campaigns, and can be easily set up to track revenue per transaction -- start here to see how. Google Analytics (and other web site analytics packages) also shows you a wealth of information that will help you optimize your PPC campaigns -- like data regarding how many shoppers are leaving your site before completing a shopping transaction.

3 types of Search Engines

1.       Spiders
The search engine sends out a ‘spider’ or ‘robot’ that records all the text on your website. That text is then indexed in a database, categorized by keyword, and given a relevancy ranking. A higher relevancy ranking makes your pages appear higher when the search engine returns results to a visitor.
a.       Main Engines – Google, Yahoo, MSN
b.      Benefits – These are the Big Three and they cover 95% of all search engine traffic. Concentrate your efforts here and forget about the little guys.

2.       Directories
Directories have websites submitted to them for review. The best directories are reviewed by hand and disallow affiliate sites or sites with little or no content. Most directories get very little traffic but, since the included websites are reviewed for quality, the Big Three consider them a good source to find new websites. Getting listed in directories is the most common way to build link popularity.
a.       Main Engines – Business.com, DMOZ.org, GoGuides.com, JoeAnt.com, Gimpsy.org
b.      Benefits – While these engines don’t get a lot of traffic other search engines use their results. Spider engines like Google consider directories to have high quality content and often index the directory’s additions.

3.       PPC – Pay-per-click search engines sell ranking by keyword in an auction format. If you want to have a high ranking you simply bid more for that particular word. These results appear at the top or side of the regular listings.
a.       Main Engines – Yahoo Search Solutions and Google Adwords. Shopping PPCs  or price comparison engines, include Shopping.com, Nextag.com, and Pricegrabber.com.
b.      Benefits – Getting listed in a Directory or Spider engine can take weeks or months and getting a good ranking can take up to a year of trial and error. With a PPC listing you’re up and running in under a week and you can get exactly the keyword and ranking you want.

SEO for Blogspot - Blogger Blogs

Blogger is one of the most normally used as blogging platforms and I have often received mails and questions from persons using blogger that they aren’t sure how they can optimize it. There are innumerable numbers of plug-ins that are useful for SEO of WordPress Blogs but as such there are not many options with Blogger. While most blogging platforms, including blogger is basically SEO friendly , people often feel that blogspot do place certain limits to freely optimize the blog as you like. However, certain little tweaks can make your blog really SEO friendly. Here are some easy techniques and tips that you can do to make your blogspot pages extra SEO friendly.

Title and Meta Tags

Blogger used definite strings for post title ( <$BlogItemTitle$> ), blog name( <$BlogTitle$> ) etc. These strings would also work when you place them in Title tags or Description tags. By default blogger includes the post title in the title of the page preceded by the Blog Title. If you have already inserted a big blog title, that would make your post title to be pushed back and your title becomes less relevant to the post. So get to the blogger template and make some changes to this. A good way to put your title, might be
<title><$BlogTitle$> : Some text of your choice </title>. You can use similar technique to create Meta Description tag for all the pages.

Having unique Title and Description for various Pages - We would often like to have various structure for Title and Description for various type (main URL, Archive pages, Individual post pages etc ) of blog pages. This can also be done! Blogger uses certain tags, which you can very easily discover if you learn the code thoroughly. But I have done that work for you here. For putting any tags on the main blogger page, put them between <Mainpage></Mainpage> - this would be displayed only on the home page. For Archive pages use <ArchivePage></ArchivePage> and for individual post pages use <ItemPage></ItemPage>. The tags you put in between these tags would be displayed only for the specific type of pages.

Blog Posts

While writing your post don't stuff them with keywords but keep your keywords in mind and use them wherever they can be applied naturally. Try to use your keywords in post title - remember the post title would also go into your page title. You can read this article for more about Web content writing and Website content

Link between posts using suitable anchor texts. This helps your visitors to get reference and also helps in navigation between your blog pages and increased PR flow.

More With Template

If you are using a template with a sidebar (most of them are) you can write some optimized text targeting your keywords in the sidebar. Be vigilant not to spam, it should be revealing text about your blog /subject, yet be full of your keywords.

You will notice that your blog post titles are already in <h2> tags. Search engines pay a little more importance to stuff placed in <h> tags. Try to break down your long posts with sub headings. This will make life easier for your readers and you can use some styles (define them in the template) to get those subheadings to be <h3>.

Comments

Keep your comments in the same page as blog post. Blogger gives the option to have your comments in a pop up window. You need to select "no" on that option. You will often have very good content as comments that can highly boost your content.

Links

Link out to relevant authority sites or blogs whereever necessary. That would help your readers and would also help search engines. At times people would also link back to you when you link to them but do not link to someone with the expectation of link back. Link only where you think is necessary.

Get links to your blog. I don't think you need more inspiration for this but just in case you are wondering on how to get more links refer to my article on how to catch free back links

Top 8 Myths of Search Engine Optimization

Myth 1: Automatic SEO tools are helpful and cheap solution
Do you actually think that there is something which will let you relax and make lot of money without doing anything? It is just like any business where you have to put time and ability effectively. Search engine and many websites know that this is an automated submission and not a regular one.

Myth 2:  objects the Meta Keyword and Alt Tags with keywords
Well search engine looks Meta tags only for reference; they in reality do not use them for any ranking. Similarly putting some   description in alt tags is important, but stuffing keywords is highly discouraged. These alt tags are meant for slow speed   connections or in cases where images are not loaded, so showing your staffed keywords will not be beneficial at that time.

Myth 3:  Fill your website with loads of text in small fonts
Well this technique no longer works, search engine are now intelligent enough for these tricks. There are webmasters who   changes the fonts of H1, H2 tags in CSS , but believe me, search engines knows the font style and give preferences   accordingly.  Also be away from invisible texts and links.

Myth 4:  Cloaking is a good idea
A “cloaked” page is a page that shows one thing to the user and another to the search engines.  Again, because the search   engines want valuable content provided to the user, they may devalue or even drop your site altogether if they spot this   technique.

Myth 5:  Don’t hire SEO experts; just let your “web guy” do it
Would you let your accountant create your website? Then why are you letting your web guy to do SEO, There are many complex strategies and processes involved in doing good SEO which needs lot of experience and knowledge  and I have seen many web guys leading websites to be banned by doing hit and trial methods.

Myth 6: PPC ads help/hurt SEO.
Many people believe that running Google AdWords can affect organic rankings of their site. Some believe it will bring their   site up, some believe it will bring their site down.  PPC ads have nothing to do with SEO and have no influence on organic   rankings.

Myth 7 :  You must update your website frequently.
Some of the highest ranking websites in Google haven’t been updated in years. Frequent updates will probably increase the   search engine crawl rate but won’t help your website rank better. If your site doesn’t need a change, don’t change it. Focus on   quality of pages.

Myth 8 : Your site will be banned if you buy links.
There is no efficient way to figure out whether the link is paid or not. Even if they somehow figure it out, they won’t ban   the entire site. It would be silly to ban entire websites because of few advertisements. Search Engine won’t count those links.
